ANDE Summit, the fourth and final ANDE mini-course, helps learners reach the peak of their foundational skills training by sharpening their skills in data literacy and geometric measurement. Learners advance their knowledge by exploring statistics and tackling real-world measurement challenges.
Data Distributions & Geometry
The fourth and final mini-course in the ANDE sequence: Data Distributions & Geometry
Goal
Course Overview
For Instructors
ANDE Summit is the fourth and final mini-course in the ANDE series, guiding adult learners to the top as they sharpen their data analysis and measurement skills. Summit blends statistical literacy with geometric reasoning, preparing learners for GED math and practical, everyday challenges.
General Audience
- Aligned to NRS Levels 3 & 4 and CCRS Levels C–D (grades 6–8) and written for clarity and accessibility, meeting a Flesch Reading Ease score of 60–70 (grades 7–9);
- Integrates statistics and geometry for a complete view from the summit;
- Focuses on skills that empower learners in real-world contexts and test readiness; and
- Encourages collaborative problem-solving, visual modeling, and meaningful discussion.
Lesson Overview
ANDE Summit contains 7 units:
- Understanding Mean, Median, and Range: Analyze data sets and explore central tendencies.
- Exploring Interquartile Range and Mean Absolute Deviation: Use box plots, line plots, and histograms to investigate data spread.
- Comparing Data Sets: Reason about which statistical measures best describe different groups of data
- Problem Solving with Angles: Use properties of triangles and quadrilaterals to determine unknown angles and apply angle relationships in real-world contexts.
- Calculating Perimeter and Area: Solve practical problems using diagrams and word problems.
- Surface Area and Volume: Work with geometric nets and real-world scenarios to find surface area and volume.
- Connecting Data & Geometry: Help learners see cross-topic relationships and apply new skills to authentic situations.
